About this site...

This Web site was last updated on March 5, 2004.

A new page pop-up was added on 10/10/03 detailing the Wyeth Inc. actions leading to the cancellation of one-third of their PMU collection contracts.

On September 3, 2003, we learned of Wyeth's proposed plans to significantly curtail their number of PMU contracts via an anonymous source. We contacted HorseAid founders Enzo Giobbé and Staci Wilson, who had previously funded all of our PMU/Premarin® research, to ask for a new grant to determine how these actions, if they indeed came to pass, would impact the horses used in PMU farming.

Within a week, we were given a grant for that specific purpose. We kept the information we had received confidential, as we had no means to verify it as being accurate, and because we wanted to be able to begin gathering our information unhindered should Wyeth's rumored actions materialize.

Those funds have allowed us to accurately research the immediate impact that Wyeth's actions have had on the PMU horses, and will allow us to document the long term future impact on the PMU farm horses as well. A small portion of that grant was used to update this Web site with the latest available information on the PMU/Premarin controversy.

In early 2000, the IGHA board voted to curtail many of the expensive programs the IGHA supported financially (PMU research being one of them). Because of our severe budget cutbacks, we did not embark on our usual on-site visits to the Canadian pee provinces in 2000-2003, nor have we attended any the "The Foals of August" meat auctions since 1999. Remember, we have never solicited "outside" funds for our extensive PMU research or equine beneficence programs.

Depending on general public interest and the availability of funds, we may also resume our on-site visits to the PMU farms and Canadian meat auctions in 2004. We may also try (for the very first time) soliciting funds via a PayPal donation link on this site to further fund our research and fact gathering.

IGHA/HorseAid was the first organization to report and publish facts on the abuse of horses used in the production of PMU and question the long term health risks that women faced in its use (our research began in 1986, long before there was a public Web or Internet).

We published the story (with photographs) in our 1988 Fall/Winter issue of Equine Times News (ET-News, forerunner of our current Running Free publication), under the heading, "The Pill that Kills".

HorseAid's equine abuse and PMU/Premarin® exposé's have been featured in many newspapers, magazines, and local channel TV outlets as well as the national TV shows, "Hard Copy", "20/20", "Primetime", and "Dateline NBC".

Please note that Wyeth Inc. has in the past, tried to shut this Web site down several times (and may well try again in the future).

Wyeth just doesn't get it. HorseAid is not against Wyeth, we are against any product that adversely affects the well-being of humans or animals.
